There is a wonderful
law of nature that the
three things we crave
most in life - happiness,
freedom, and peace of
mind - are always
attained by giving them
to someone else.

How We Serve

Philanthropy at St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center

To fulfill our mission, the Foundation focuses on three major areas:

  • Capital needs include state-of-the-art medical technology;
  • Community needs affect the health and quality of life of people living on the Western Slope;
  • Endowments are established to provide perpetual support of programs and projects provided by St. Mary's Hospital to benefit the community.

Philanthropy is an important part of advancing the mission at St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center. In 2007, St. Mary's provided over $32,000,000 in charity care to the community.

St. Mary's continues to honor this century long commitment to provide care to everyone who enters its doors in spite of a growing uninsured population and declining reimbursement. The promise is kept even amidst increasing pressure caused by dramatic increases in costs for staff, pharmaceuticals and equipment. In light of this economic environment, it becomes quickly apparent how important philanthropy is to the Hospital's ability to continually provide the measure of healthcare excellence the community expects that patients and families deserve. Thus, the Hospital's ability to fulfill its mission requires engagement with and support from community members.

St. Mary's Hospital Foundation is a separately incorporated not-for-profit organization that exists to invite and encourage philanthropic investment in programs and services offered to patients and the community. The Foundation believes that the enduring promise of healthcare philanthropy is the enhanced ability to change lives and the power to save lives. Therefore, it dedicates itself to developing the resources that help keep and expand this promise to the people who trust St. Mary's Hospital to care for them.

Every day at St. Mary's Hospital, hundreds of stories of hope, courage and faith unfold…The Foundation is committed to doing everything it can to make sure as many as possible have happy endings through advancing the promise of life through philanthropy.
