Major Gift Opportunities

The Journey Of Life Is Not Made Alone.

From prenatal care through life's end, St. Mary's Hospital offers the most modern medical treatments, compassionate care, and the understanding that effective healing involves an entire family.

As the Grand Valley and surrounding areas have grown, St. Mary's has grown.  When new technology and better ways of treatment have become available, we have brought them to the patients who depend on us for care.

To respond to a growing population and well as to fulfill the healing promise of new medical technology, we have embarked on The Century Project - the most significant advancement in healthcare in St. Mary's history - and in the history of the Western Slope.  With a new patient facility and renovations throughout the existing hospital, we will transform patient care as well as broaden the horizons of healthcare for everyone in western Colorado and eastern Utah.

We Invite You To Learn About The Next Century Of Healthcare.

Caregivers as well as families know that patients recover more quickly from illness or surgery in private rooms.  They sleep better.  They can talk freely with doctors about their condition.  Family members can assist them - spending the night, if necessary - without having to deal with a roommate and that person's illness and visitors.

The Century Project will enable St. Mary's to transform patient rooms to private rooms - including those in critical care, obstetrics, and surgical.  Family members will be able to spend the night with patients, and wireless Internet access will make it possible to keep in touch with the outside world while in a patient's room.  Most importantly, private rooms will help deliver the best possible care.

Making The Most Of The Healing Power Of Family.

Because so much of healing depends on a patient's family, the Century Project will provide improved family interaction with physicians and other caregivers.  The emergency room and cardiac areas will be more private, reducing stress and facilitating more effective treatment.

When a person comes to St. Mary's for surgery, family members and friends will find comfortable, calming rooms in which to wait, with private space to talk with doctors.  As patients are transported from a treatment center to their room, they will move through seperate corridors away from visitors.  When patients prepare to go home, new education space will enable those who will care for them at home to receive top-notch training from nurses and other experts.

Looking To The Future Of Medical Technology.

Rapid advances in medical technology make it possible for St. Mary's physicians to deliver world-class treatment to patients.  The heart catheter lab effectively treats heart disease with minimally invasive procedures, reducing the need for open-heart surgery in many cases.

The Century Project will create state-of-the-art operating rooms, with some dedicated to cardiac surgery and robotic surgery, and all equipped with the newest technology.  New space will enable St. Mary's to cluster equipment in treatment areas, maximize the effectiveness of physicians and other hospital personnel and minimize having to move patients through the building.

Making The Difference When Seconds Count.

In emergencies, seconds count.  St. Mary's CareFlight helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft make over 1,000 flights per year, and this number steadily increases as the population grows.  The new facility will have a helipad on the roof which will mean that trauma patients will be taken directly as needed to the emergency room, surgical suite, or neonatal intensive care unit.

After patients undergo initial emergency or surgical treatment, their recovery is entrusted to a team of St. Mary's specialists - therapists, pharmacists, dieticians, and others - all of whom will work more effectively in new spaces provided by the Century Project.  Other important team members, such as spiritual advisors and family physicians, will have room in the new building as well.

The Promise of the Future

Terry Fleming and his son Cody

Thirty years ago, our nephew was born premature with lung problems.  Back then, our regional hospital didn't have the equipment we have now, and the baby needed to go to Denver or Salt Lake.  It was winter and no flights could get out, and after just a day, he died.  It was one of the saddest times in our family's life.

In 1978, our son Cody was born - also premature with lung problems - and all those sad memories came back.  For a few days we didn't think he was going to make it, but this time St. Mary's had the best technology.  We saw first hand how hard those doctors and nurses worked to save our son, and now he works with his father every day.

Generous people whom we never met provided the resources that saved Cody's life.  We now want to help people we may never meet.  Our family manages construction for a living, and we can see that the Hospital is doing this ambitious project right - St. Mary's is committed to delivering the best healthcare for us all.

The new building will have room for today's life-saving equipment and - very important - it will have room for new technology when it becomes available.  The Hospital is building with an eye toward savings as well; we hope that the new facility will be one of the most energy-efficient structures in Grand Junction.

St. Mary's is a not-for-profit, mission-based hospital, and to complete this project, we need to raise $10 million dollars.  We are asking everyone - doctors, employees, individuals, and companies - to partner with St. Mary's to save lives.

We're asking our friends to make a commitment to a powerful mission that began when the Sisters answered the call to start a hospital in the small town of Grand Junction.  This mission has carried on for over a century and has touched all of our lives - those of our parents and those of our children.  The Century Project is our opportunity to touch those who depend on us for health and healing.  It's our opportunity to be a part of building something that will have much more impact that we can possible know.

We hope you will join us in keeping St. Mary's strong for generations yet to come.
