Student Nurse Clinical Placements

As the regional medical center for western Colorado and eastern Utah, St. Mary's Hospital provides valuable learning opportunities for nursing students. As the only facility in the region to offer comprehensive cardio-thoracic and neurosurgical services, cancer care, labor and delivery services, a neonatal intensive care unit, Level II trauma services, air medical transport, and many other major healthcare services, St. Mary's exposes students to a broad range of clinical experiences.

Our nursing personnel act as mentors, teachers, and professional colleagues, sharing their knowledge, experience, and dedication with nursing students of all levels.

Clinical placement requests
Contact the student nurse clinical placement coordinator to discuss student nurse placement needs. Student nurse placements will be arranged only if there is a Student Affiliation Agreement between the school of nursing and St. Mary's Hospital.

If there is no affiliation agreement in place, please contact the St. Mary’s Hospital student nurse placement coordinator to discuss clinical placement needs and start the application and affiliation process. Please do not contact unit clinical managers directly; clinical managers cannot arrange student placements and will refer all requests to Nursing Support Services.

Pre-licensure Student placement
Placement requests for students in pre-licensure programs must be made by nursing school faculty, advisors, or other school personnel. We do NOT accept placement requests directly from students in pre-licensure programs.

Post-licensure Student placement
Some nursing schools require students in post-licensure and advanced practice programs to arrange their own clinical placements. These students should contact the student nurse placement coordinator at St. Mary's Hospital to begin the placement process.
