Quality & Safety

“We are creating a culture of excellence, where the patient, family, and consumer are at the center of  everything we do,” — Jennie Dulac, RN, Chief Quality Officer

Safety and quality matters. That’s why we strive to foster an environment where every associate is empowered to do whatever is necessary to improve the care experience.

Our Focus

Where quality outcomes and patient safety are concerned, we continue to set our sights higher. Learn more about our areas of focus based on our own analysis of scorecards, risk management claims and national performance measure rankings:

  • Maximizing our health system’s performance relative to value-based purchasing. Medicare introduced this new payment system last year shifting its focus from payments based on volume to payments based on performance. Scoring of core measures, patient experience, hospital acquired conditions and readmissions determines whether hospitals are penalized, break even or rewarded.

  • Accelerating the implementation of best practices to ensure excellent patient experiences systemwide. As part of this initiative, we have implemented an after-discharge call system to follow up with patients and other efforts that focus on the basics of creating a safe environment and improving communications.
  • Adopting High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles ultimately to deliver harm-free patient care. HRO principles were initially adopted by the airline and the nuclear power industries. We are adopting these same principles to eliminate events that can cause harm to you or a loved one. A sampling of these principles includes use of checklists and the ability of anyone on a team to stop a process if he/she thinks it’s incorrect. We are designing systems and processes to reduce errors that result in patient harm by over 50 percent over the next two years.
