EMS Outreach and EMS Classes

Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Outreach is a support and educational resource for healthcare professionals and the general public in Mesa County and western Colorado communities. St. Mary's EMS Outreach is a Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment-approved training center.

Professional Healthcare Training & Services

 

Professional education and training include basic and intermediate Emergency Medical Technologist (EMT) courses for hospital, fire department, rescue, ambulance, and paramedic personnel. Continuing education courses include basic and advanced cardiac life support, pediatric life support, basic arrhythmia recognition, and trauma life support. Courses are approved for CME credits.

Community Healthcare Training & Services

In conjunction with other healthcare organizations, St. Mary's EMS Outreach sponsors safety and first aid courses for school personnel, child and daycare professionals, and anyone interested in learning cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or becoming a CPR instructor. Training sessions are also available for outfitters and guides, building and construction workers, recreation and resort personnel.

In "Totsaver," young babysitters (ages 12 through 18) learn basic CPR, first aid, home safety, and how to handle emergency situations.

Safety Programs for Students

St. Mary's EMS Outreach works with local fire and health departments and traffic safety councils to design and present a variety of school programs, including bicycle and skateboard safety, seatbelt use, and driving and alcohol use.

Sara the Safety-saurus — the Dinosaur Mobile — is a fun, traveling teaching tool which presents a high-tech lesson in anatomy and body systems to area students.

Regional EMS Activities

As part of the five-county Northwest Regional EMS Council, St. Mary's EMS Outreach works with other western Colorado emergency services, local governments, and trauma advisory councils to prepare mass casualty plans, develop local instructor networks, and initiate community safety programs.
