President/CEO hired at St. Mary's Hospital

August 17, 2010
Michael J. McBride, FACHE, has been named President/CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center. He will join the hospital on September 20, 2010. “Mike brings extensive experience, talents and skills to his new leadership role and will further advance community collaboration and physician alignment at St. Mary’s,” says Dan Roberts, Board Chair and Search Committee Chair. McBride currently serves as Regional Vice President/Administrator for CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital–City Centre and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital–Medical Center in San Antonio. As senior leader for this regional market, he is responsible for nursing and multiple medical specialty service lines, as well as administrative and facility services, across two campuses with 602 licensed beds and 2,000 employees. He joined CHRISTUS in 2001 as Chief Operating Officer of CHRISTUS St. Joseph’s Health System in Paris, Texas. Prior to that, he served in a variety of executive leadership positions for medical centers in Texas and Arkansas, including President of McCuistion Regional Medical Center, a 198-bed acute care hospital in Paris, Texas. Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Baylor University in Waco, Texas; completed an administrative residency at Methodist Hospitals in Dallas; earned a master’s in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University in San Antonio; and is certified as a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. “During the interview process, I was so impressed by how deeply Board members, physicians, community leaders and senior leaders cared about the hospital,” says McBride. “My first priority will be meeting employees, medical staff and the members of the community. I want to hear from all constituencies regarding the opportunities we have to continue to make St. Mary’s the best hospital possible.” McBride, his wife Lesli, and their four children will be making the Grand Valley home in early September. “My family and I love outdoor activities so Grand Junction is a very attractive place to live.” Training for his tenth marathon, McBride had a chance to run through parts of the city. He even kayaked the Gunnison River during one of his short visits. “I can’t wait to see more.”
