Family Health Fiesta
Saturday, October 23, 2010
9:00 am-2:00 pm, Lincoln Park Barn
Preventive care and education are important to staying healthy and even better when they are offered free in a festive setting. That's the idea behind Family Health Fiesta‹a fair where uninsured and under-insured families and individuals can receive free health screenings and visit health information booths while enjoying music, food, and children's activities.
"Family Health Fiesta is open to everyone, but it will pay special attention to the needs of the Spanish-speaking community," says Elvi Whiteford, MD, St. Mary's Family Medicine Center. Interpreters will be at the fair all day, and printed materials will be available in Spanish. Volunteers will assist people with the application process for Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) and Medicaid.
Access to preventive care is so important that physicians, nurses, health educators, and pharmacists volunteer their time and expertise at the fiesta. St. Mary's will present breast health information, stroke education, and lung function screenings.
This community event is sponsored by Altrusa Inter-national of Grand Junction and supported by St. Mary's, the Marillac Clinic, Hilltop's B4 Babies, and many other local organizations.
