Thank you, volunteers! We can’t say it enough!
April 25, 2012
How do you express appreciation to people who show up, do their job with a smile, and never expect a paycheck? “You say ‘thank you’ a lot and know it’s never enough,” says Jeanie Morris manager of Volunteer Services at St. Mary’s Hospital.
St. Mary’s volunteers give seniors friendship and a helping hand in the Senior Companion program, help struggling students as Foster Grandparents, and serve or deliver meals to area seniors as Gray Gourmet volunteers. They also do countless jobs inside the hospital from clerical work and delivering flowers to greeting visitors and playing the piano in the lobby.
St. Mary’s always welcomes new volunteers and tries to match each person’s talents and interests to the best activity. “We have quite a variety of things to do, so finding a match is rarely a problem,” Morris says.
“When you realize our nearly 1,000 volunteers provided the equivalent of $2.4 million in services last year, you know that we really mean it when we say ‘we couldn’t do it without you!’” Morris says.
What about you? Are you ambassador material?
St. Mary’s volunteer ambassadors greet visitors, answer their questions, and help them find their way. “Ambassadors meet all kinds of people, get some exercise, and get to know the hospital,” Morris says. “They are the face and the smile of St. Mary’s.”
