Helping children reach their full potential

October 01, 2012

St. Mary’s therapists believe physical, developmental, or thinking and reasoning challenges shouldn’t keep your child from learning, playing, and enjoying being a kid.

With physical, occupational, speech, and recreation therapists on staff, St. Mary’s is a great choice if screening indicates your child would benefit from one or more types of therapy. “Our therapists are extremely dedicated to their young clients,” says Amy Nielsen, speech-language therapist in St. Mary’s outpatient pediatric therapy services, “and along with our care coordinators, we all work together to make sure therapy is integrated and meeting all of your child’s needs and goals.”

Many children benefit from one-on-one therapy. Some learn from structured social interaction with other children, Neilsen explains. “Each care plan is personalized to meet each child’s needs.”

Neilsen says she and St. Mary’s pediatric therapists are honored by the trust parents place in them. “Your child’s therapy is much bigger than the sessions he or she attends. It’s part of his or her developing life and future, so we coordinate with your child’s physician, school, and community programs and agencies. And we never forget we’re working with a family, not just with one child.”
