St. Mary's honors 292 for years of service
February 07, 2014
Parties often have a guest of honor, maybe two. On February 7, St. Mary’s hosts a celebration honoring 292 special guests. But what have all these people done? And if that many people have done it, is it still considered special? Yes, it is because they have put their time and talents to work to serve St. Mary’s patients and families.
“We’re honoring those who celebrated landmark service anniversaries in 2013…five years, 10 years, 15, and so on,” says Mike McBride, St. Mary’s president and chief executive officer. “I am humbled to shake their hands knowing how long and how loyally they have served St. Mary’s and, more importantly, served our patients.”
The honorees and their guests are treated to a dinner party and recognition program at Two Rivers Convention Center. “We make it a special evening, kind of a big deal,” McBride says, “but nothing could be big enough to truly thank those who dedicate their working lives to helping others. We ask the community to join us in saying ‘thank you.’”
55 and counting!
The applause will be loud and long for Dale Schwarz at St. Mary’s service awards celebration February 7. That’s because he’s been with the hospital for 55 years. A lab tech for most of his career, Schwarz now works in St. Mary’s Regional Blood Center calling donors when their specific blood type is needed. “This is one of the most enjoyable jobs I’ve ever had,” he says. “I enjoy the contact with the donors and their response to the community’s needs. The blood center is an important part of St. Mary’s. St. Mary’s is important to western Colorado.”
