Fire Department wins
April 10, 2015
The 2015 Heroes Behind the Badges champion is the Fire Department! St. Mary’s Regional Blood Center was able to collect 380 units of blood during the friendly competition. “It was a very close race right to the end, but the fire department managed to pull ahead for the win with 214 donations vs. 166 donations for the police”, says Sherri Burns, donor recruiter for St. Mary’s. During spring break the blood center normally sees a reduction in donations, but this year there was a steady supply of donors thanks to the fire and police departments. “The competition recognized heroes who wear badges, the fire department and the police department. Every day these men and women put their lives on the line to help keep our community safe. They truly are heroes both on and off the job. In addition, everyone who donates blood is also a hero who saves lives,” commented Jennifer Rhamy, director of the St. Mary’s Regional Blood Donor Center.
An official awards presentation was held April 10, 2015 and St. Mary’s presented a check for $250 to Delaney Donates
, the fire department’s charity of choice. Delaney Donates is an organization that raises money for Grand Junction residents in need who have been affected by cancer. Delaney believes that each person fighting cancer needs to be recognized so they know they have someone cheering for them, especially when times are the hardest.
