Saccomanno Annual Lecture

The annual lecture series is named for Geno Saccomanno, PhD, MD, who started St. Mary's pathology and laboratory services in the late 1940s. Dr. Saccomanno conducted landmark research on the detection and analysis of lung cancer caused by smoking and exposure to radiation. Past lecture topics include interventional pulmonology in the treatment of asthma and COPD, hyperbaric medicine, stem cell research, epidemiologic studies and other research in early lung cancer detection. Sponsored by St. Mary's Hospital and Regional Medical Center, the lectures provide an opportunity for the public to hear about cutting edge research and medical care. In addition, the speaker provides a program on the same topic geared toward physicians and medical staff.
