Get With The Guidelines award
St. Mary’s has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®—Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes St. Mary’s commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines.
In addition to the Get With The Guidelines-Stroke award, St. Mary’s also received the association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll for improving stroke care and administering tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, to at least 50 percent of eligible stroke patients within 60 minutes of arriving at the hospital. A clot-busting agent, tPA is the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the urgent treatment of ischemic stroke, a stroke caused by a blockage.
“With a stroke, time lost is brain lost, and the Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award demonstrates St. Mary’s commitment to being one of the top hospitals in the country for providing aggressive, proven stroke care,” says Kelly Arnold, RN, BSN, CCRN, coordinator of St. Mary’s stroke program. “We will continue to focus on providing care with evidence-based protocols shown in the scientific literature to quickly and efficiently treat stroke patients.”
The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognize St. Mary’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center for achieving 85% or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Performance Achievement indicators for consecutive 12-month intervals and 75% or higher compliance with five of the eight Get With The Guidelines Stroke Quality Measures to improve quality of patient care and outcomes in addition to achieving Time to Intravenous Thrombolytic Therapy ≤ 60 minutes in 50% or more of applicable acute ischemic stroke patients (minimum of six) during one calendar quarter.
