Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery
St. Mary's offers a gastric band weight loss surgery program for those unsuccessful in all attempts to lose weight and seeking a surgical solution. An adjustable, silicone gastric band is placed around the upper part of the stomach through a minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgical procedure. The band limits the amount of food the stomach can hold, reduces appetite, and slows digestion, resulting in sustained weight loss. Patients are evaluated and supported by surgeons, dietitians, counselors, and exercise physiologists.
When other medical management techniques offer little hope, open-heart surgery can often improve cardiac performance, endurance, and quality of life for patients with coronary artery, valvular, thoracic aorta, and end-stage cardiac diseases. Vascular surgeries are performed to treat occluded abdominal and leg veins. Thoracic surgeries include biopsies and lung excisions to treat cancer and other lung disorders.
St. Mary's team of experienced surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other professionals performs more than 250 cardiac and vascular surgical procedures each year.

With developments in orthopedic surgery and artificial joint technology, people no longer need to suffer with painful, debilitating knee, hip, or shoulder injuries. St. Mary's joint replacement team leads classes to help patients understand the replacement process and answer questions about surgery, rehabilitation, and recovery.
