Our concern for you and your baby doesn't end when you leave St. Mary's. You'll receive a Home Information Kit that reviews what you learned about caring for your baby and much more. A helpful reference booklet on breastfeeding is also available. Having your baby at St. Mary's makes you a part of our family. Center for Infant Feeding
The American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics support breastfeeding for infant nutrition. The Center for Infant Feeding provides accurate, up-to-date information to ensure all new moms receive support and encouragement. Nurses who are certified lactation educators are available daily to answer your questions. The Center has information about returning to work, breast pumping, and weaning. They also provide information on breast pump rentals and purchase. Moms and babies who are experiencing feeding problems can also contact the Center for help.
SPAN (Supporting Parents and Newborns)
Taking a new baby home can be difficult even for experienced parents. To help with this transition, St. Mary's Hospital provides SPAN appointments. Make an appointment with a nurse while you are in the hospital. In two to four days, a nurse will visit or telephone you at home to be sure you and your baby are doing well. The nurse will be happy to answer any questions you have as a new mom.
